Jim’s Path is a book that I co-authored with my son, Jim Fritz, telling the story of God’s faithfulness through my son’s accident, which resulted in a him becoming a quadriplegic and being confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life! I have included the preface to our book below. If you are interested in reading our story, the book can be ordered at http://www.winepressbooks.com/Jim-s-Path/products/114/9781579216153.
“Here we are, a mother and her son, both caught in the down-spiraling winds of tragedy. We tell our story because we want to give glory to God who was so faithful to bring us through it all. In the process, he burnt out the dross and changed us into better people. He also changed many others along the way. We tell our story so you can know that God can cause “all things to work together for good, to those who love Him…” (Romans 8:28). Not only did He change tragedy into beauty; but also He brought strength out of weakness and happiness out of great sorrow. God is so good. He is so faithful. He is so loving.
In 1980, I was involved in an automobile accident. I became a quadriplegic and was confined to a wheelchair. My life was changed forever. This is my story, Jim’s Path.
It has been a tremendous blessing for me to review my life in a wheelchair and how God has provided for my needs every step of the way. It has also caused me to relive some of the most painful experiences and emotions of my life during those difficult days following my accident. I hope that it will be a blessing to others.
The purpose for writing my testimony is to be an encouragement to others who are suffering from adversity. That includes pretty much everyone. In seeking to encourage others I hope to communicate three truths that have been very powerfully etched into the fabric of my life. First, God is good! Whatever the circumstances, difficulties, or trials, God wants to use them to draw us closer to Him and His will for our lives. He loves His children and wants to see them grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Second, God can still use you! After my accident, I struggled a great deal with being useful. I didn’t like feeling that I was a burden all the time. I wanted to have purpose in my life. I hope that my testimony is an example of how God can enable even the handicapped to be productive and fruitful for the Lord Jesus Christ. I hope that it will provide the motivation for someone to persevere in overcoming adversity. And third, life can still be fulfilling. I can’t express in words the joy, peace, and contentment that I have in my life today. That doesn’t mean that I still don’t struggle, but I praise God for His goodness to me. I have a wonderful wife and daughter, a ministry that I love very much, and I am surrounded by friends and family who are a tremendous encouragement to me every step of the way.
I would like to say one more thing. It is so easy for us to fix our eyes on people instead of the Lord Jesus Christ. My desire is that the Lord be glorified through my testimony. I want to be an example of what God can do, not what I can do. May God be glorified through His marvelous demonstration of grace in my life.”
